Do you ever wonder how the items you buy were made and by whom? At Elefair, these details are important to us. Read below to find out how we make our diverse range of products.
Felt
All of our beautiful felt products are handmade with love and care in Kathmandu, Nepal. Our founder, Ele, travels there twice a year to come up with new designs, visit the factories and oversee production. Over the years she has learnt fluent Nepali and has become good friends with all of our manufacturers and suppliers. By travelling there often, she can ensure that the products are of the highest quality and being produced in ethical conditions (worker safety is considered, no child labour is used and they are given regular breaks).
Silver
The majority of our silver items are made in Kathmandu, Nepal. The Nepali silversmiths are extremely skilled and often have to deal with power shortages, which can impair their workflow. On her frequent trips to Nepal, our founder Ele visits the silversmiths in their factories, in order to explain new designs and custom orders and to view their new creations. Each silversmith has a different style and speciality! Health and safety can sometimes be a concern in Nepal, so Ele ensures that the workers are in a safe environment.
Balinese Crafts
As with most trips to factories, visiting the woodworker involves a lot of tea! All of our wooden carvings are hand made by our Balinese friend based near Ubud, Bali. He is extremely skilled and efficient and can make absolutely anything out of wood! Ele travels to Bali once every few years to reconnect with the manufacturers, who also make our wooden instruments, metal decorations, kites and other items from natural materials.
